THOROUGHBRED SPOTLIGHT AT OCALA JOCKEY CLUB

Retired Racehorse Project Master Class

Sunday, November 15 after Show Jumping: Retired Racehorse Project Master Class

Thoroughbreds are bred and raised for racing at the racetrack. Their racing careers usually start at 2 and they stay racing up to age of 4. Some still continue racing well when they are 8 or 9. When they retire from the racetrack, some will join their owners' broodmare bands. A few select top colts will go on to a stud career. The Racehorse Retirement Project was created to promote and incentivize the use of Thoroughbreds in their second careers. The organization does this by providing education and information regarding training off-track Thoroughbreds for new careers and caring for them. The organization also runs their popular Thoroughbred Makeover event each October, where trainers bring their newly retired off-track Thoroughbreds to showcase their skills in one of 10 disciplines after having less than a year to retrain them. The Retired Racehorse Project and Ocala Jockey Club are working together at the Ocala Jockey Club International 3-Day Event this weekend in a number of ways:
